TechTrack Apprentices Meet the Prime Minister as Government Unveils Ambitious Digital Plans

TechTrack Apprentices Meet the Prime Minister as Government Unveils Ambitious Digital Plans
2:47

Last week, the Prime Minister set out a bold new vision for a digital-first Civil Service, where one in ten civil servants will work in digital and data roles. This landmark shift is backed by the TechTrack Programme, a new initiative that will see 2,000 apprentices develop the technical expertise needed to transform public services.

And Makers is at the heart of this transformation—as the government’s chosen tech training partner.

TechTrack at 10 Downing Street

As part of this announcement, our TechTrack apprentices were invited to 10 Downing Street last Monday for a government-led hackathon. They spent the day applying their skills to real-world challenges.

The event had an unexpected highlight—the Prime Minister himself joined in, pair programming alongside our apprentices and seeing firsthand the impact of digital skills in action.

A National Conversation on the Future of Digital Government

The conversation didn’t stop there. On Thursday, the Prime Minister took further questions from the public, including Amrit, one of our TechTrack apprentices, live on TV. The exchange made an impact—so much so that the PM shared Amrit’s question on social media!

From Announcement to Action

The Civil Service is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, moving away from reliance on external contractors and instead developing in-house digital capability. Makers is delivering the training to make this happen.

TechTrack apprentices aren’t just learning to code—they’re learning to think critically, collaborate, and adapt to the evolving role of AI and automation in government. These are the people who will help shape the future of public services.

Twelve years ago, we set out to change how people access careers in tech. Today, we’re proud to be at the heart of the UK’s biggest shift towards a digital-first government. And we’re just getting started. 🚀
