Human Rights Statement

Our commitment

At Makers, people are at the heart of what we do. We help people build the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to thrive as technology changes. That means how we operate matters just as much as what we deliver.

We are committed to respecting human rights across our business and to treating the people we work with fairly, safely and with dignity.

Our approach is guided by internationally recognised human rights principles, including:

  • the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

  • the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the wider International Bill of Human Rights

  • the International Labour Organization Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work

These principles guide how we work with our employees, learners, clients, suppliers and the wider communities we are part of.

What this means at Makers

We want Makers to be a place where people are treated fairly, feel safe and are respected.

We do not tolerate forced or compulsory labour, child labour, discrimination, harassment, intimidation, abuse or other forms of inhumane treatment within our organisation or our wider supply chain.

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment and complying with applicable employment, health and safety, working time and pay requirements.

We support this commitment through our wider policies and ways of working, including our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, fair employment practices and modern slavery.

Working with suppliers and partners

We recognise that the decisions we make about who we buy from and work with can affect people beyond Makers.

We consider relevant human rights and labour standards when making material procurement decisions and expect the organisations we work with to comply with applicable employment and human rights legislation.

Where we identify concerns, we will consider the nature and seriousness of the issue and what action is appropriate.

Raising concerns

We want people to feel able to speak up if they believe these commitments are not being met.

Employees can raise concerns through their manager, the People team or the relevant internal reporting process. Learners, clients, suppliers and others who work with Makers can raise concerns through their usual Makers contact or our published contact channels.

We will take concerns seriously and respond appropriately based on the nature of the issue.

Keeping our commitment under review

We will review this statement regularly to make sure it continues to reflect our business, our responsibilities and recognised good practice.
